The Fishing: What to Expect

Waterfall sits in one of the most productive fisheries in Southeast Alaska, where salmon and halibut thrive in cold, nutrient-rich waters. For many guests, this is exactly why an Alaska fishing trip stands apart—it offers hands-on excitement, breathtaking scenery, and the one-of-a-kind thrill of landing a fish you’ll talk about for years.
There’s no need to bring your own gear—Waterfall provides all rods, reels, tackle, boots, and top-tier all-weather gear, along with expert Coast Guard–licensed guides who know these waters inside and out.
Will you catch fish? While fishing always depends on nature, most guests experience incredible action and often fill their limits. Many describe it as the rare kind of trip where every day feels rewarding and genuinely unforgettable.

Getting Here & What You Need

One of Waterfall Resort’s biggest advantages is its location: remote enough to feel like true Alaska, yet surprisingly easy to reach.
Unlike many Alaska lodges that require long travel days, multiple flights, and complex transfers, Waterfall is located in Southeast Alaska—meaning your travel is shorter, smoother, and more efficient. After arriving in Ketchikan, you’ll take a stunning floatplane flight directly to the resort.
Guests often tell us this is the perfect balance: you’re immersed in untouched wilderness the moment you arrive, but you didn’t have to spend a full day—or multiple travel legs—getting there.
Licenses: Anglers 16+ need an Alaska fishing license, and a King Salmon Stamp is required for targeting kings. We handle everything you need.

Bringing Your Catch Home

Your catch is trimmed to your preference, vacuum-sealed, flash-frozen, and packed in airline-approved wet-lock boxes so you can take home premium Alaska seafood with ease. Many guests say bringing home salmon or halibut they personally caught is one of the most meaningful souvenirs they’ve ever brought back from a vacation.

Weather & Packing

Expect classic Southeast Alaska summer weather: 50s–70s°F, long daylight hours, and a mix of sunshine and light rain. Since we provide all fishing and rain gear, packing is simple: bring warm layers, a waterproof jacket, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, a hat, and casual lodge clothing.
Another perk of choosing a Southeast Alaska destination? The milder climate. You get the dramatic beauty of Alaska with more comfortable conditions than many farther-north regions.

Wi-Fi, Phone Service & Connectivity

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort. Cell service can be spotty in remote areas and on the water—which many guests appreciate as part of the reset and relaxation.

For Families & Fun Beyond Fishing

Waterfall is a favorite for multi-generational trips—kids fish safely with licensed guides, and special youth rates are available. Families often choose an Alaska fishing trip because it creates shared experiences, celebrating first catches, spotting wildlife together, and enjoying time uninterrupted by everyday distractions.
After fishing enjoy hiking to the waterfall, wildlife viewing, boardwalk strolls, the driving range, indoor games, the Lagoon Saloon, and relaxing with Alaska views.
