Flat Out for Halibut
On Waterfall Resort’s 2017 halibut leaderboard, the 230-pounder caught by Garrett Teskey (pictured above, center) of Tustin, California, is the top contender. Teskey landed his behemoth on July 19.
The next day, Brett Lakes of Parkville, Missouri, scored a close second with a 221.6-pound beauty. On July 25, Jeff Townsend (above left) of San Luis Obispo, California, landed a 159.4-pounder. And in fourth, Shawn Valk (above right) of Heath, Texas, caught his 155.6-pound fish on July 14.
All these halibut were in the 80 inches or more category. Any halibut under 80 inches or above 44 inches falls in the slot for release, per regulations of the International Pacific Halibut Commission—unless it’s a Bonus Halibut Tag catch.
