Why? Simply put – Waterfall Resort’s specific location in Alaska’s Inside Passage! Since the late 1800s, the West Coast of Prince of Wales Island in Alaska’s Inside Passage has been a commercial fishing center cultivating the annual Salmon and bottom fishery. In the cool waters surrounding Prince of Wales Island, rich tides prime the deep waters to create habitats for millions of baitfish that attract annual returns of trophy-size King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Halibut, Ling Cod, Red Snapper and Rockfish. Today, novice and avid Alaska anglers sport fish these same productive coastal waters.

In the early 1900's, Waterfall was the largest salmon packing plant on the west coast of Prince of Wales Island. Like most canneries in Alaska, this remote operation on the Ulloa Channel was a complete, self- sufficient, temporary community. When the season was over, all but a few workers departed until the next summer's migration.
