2024 King Salmon Limits for Alaska

By Scott McKelvey, Posted 3/21/2023

Are you ready to dive into some epic king salmon action this summer? Because we're pumped and June is shaping up to be off the hook on the West side of Prince of Wales Island – our Legendary fishing grounds.

Alaska is known for its salmon, and Southeast Alaska? Well, it's like the holy grail for fishing fanatics. The salmon start their parade back to Waterfall Resort and our waters off the west side of Prince of Wales Island from Spring and stick around until August. And guess what? This year's no exception!

If you didn't know, every fish in our guest's sights comes with some rules – we're talking regulations, or 'limits'. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game drops these each year and it's different for each region in Alaska. Some terms you'll often hear when limits are being talked about are bag and possession limit, which is how many fish you can keep per day, and annual harvest limit, which is the grand total you can take home.

We're happy to announce that, as of now, the 2024 limits are staying the same as the 2023 season! Alaska residents get a bag and possession limit of two king salmon, while nonresidents can bag 1 king, 28 inches or longer, with annual possession limits per guest depending on whether it's early, mid, or late season:

June: 3 king salmon

July 1 – 15: 2 king salmon

July 16 – September: 1 king salmon

Looking for some friendly competition? You can sign up for our legendary King of King Salmon Tournament and win some amazing prizes. How does it work? Reel in the largest King of the Day (KOD) and you'll be entered in the drawing for brand-spanking-new Ford F-150 truck at the end of the season along with other king-sized prizes. So if you join us in June, you can land a king for 3 days, giving you 3 chances at winning King of the Day (KOD).

And even if you don’t snag KOD, you're in for a reel treat! You'll be fishing in beautiful Alaska and bagging delicious wild-caught salmon, silver and king, halibut, lingcod, and more to stock up your freezer at home. Check out our fish chart for the lowdown.

We're here to make sure you head home with loads of wild-caught fish, all cleaned, cut, frozen, and packaged with care for you to enjoy long after your bucket-list Alaska adventure ends. Get ready to savor recipes from Meagan Bowers, our Food and Beverage guru and Assistant General Manager.

And let's not forget the icing on the cake – staying at our destination fishing resort, a renovated, historical cannery smack dab on the fishing grounds.
